Not trying to be insulting in anyway but I've always thought about a complicated design on an artificial hand that could be used to play guitar. Nothing electronic, but something loaded with springs and pullies and what not where you use your wrist and elbow to manipulate where you place you're fingers. I think I need to give it some more thought, what do you guys think?

I find it good to have a wide repertoire of various styles of music to play in a group sing-along setting. That way, if you start playing and you notice that only a couple people know the words, you can go on to something else. I've definitely found myself learning some "pop" songs solely because I knew they were catchy enough to warrant a sing-along. That's the point of pop! It's catchy and sticks in people's heads! There is a definite distinction between being just a "musician" and being a "performer." The latter requires you to be in tune (no pun intended!) with your audience and what they want to hear (or sing along with in this case). Just because you are a really awesome guitarist doesn't mean you'll be able to entertain at a party...and you can entertain at a party without being a really awesome guitarist! You CAN have it both ways, just don't feel ashamed to learn a few simple pop songs. I'll quote something the author said in the original post: "It’s worth it, even if it means sacrificing some of that indie credibility you’ve been building up for so long." True dat.

That said, there were a couple tunes on the original list that I personally couldn't imagine anybody I know singing along to. But like I said, different tunes for different audiences. Here are a few of my own additions:

-"Wish You Were Here" - Pink Floyd (I'm surprised nobody mentioned this one! A true sing-along classic.)
-"Closing Time" - Semisonic
-"The General" - Dispatch (mainly the college crowd)
-"Brown-Eyed Girl" - Van Morrison
-"American Pie" - Don McLean
-"Hey Ya" - Outkast (remember how hot this was for a while? People will be like "oh snap!")
-"Tribute" - Tenacious D
-"Sitting, Waiting, Wishing" - Jack Johnson (for the ladies)
-"Dammit" - Blink-182
-"Semi-Charmed Life" - Third Eye Blind
-"Let it Be" - The Beatles

You should notice that these songs are 1) easily recognizable with fairly memorable lyrics, 2) mostly high-energy songs with a couple slower, softer numbers thrown in, and 3) fairly easy for you to remember and play while inebriated =D. And if there are any music elitists at the party who decide to talk trash on your song choices, I guarantee they'll be the only one(s) there not having a good time...unless, of course, you're at a party full of music elitists!

Nice experiment, however I do not feel that Ubuntu is the MOST user friendly distro to test on Windows users. PCLos 2007 is a much safer bet that the user will have a more desirable experience with Linux. Flash, proprietary drivers, etc enabled by default.

I have two children 4 and 13 and they both have their own systems. To reiterate the point that Linux is NOT windows, and it all depends which OS you learn on, both my kids use and love Linux. I have installed Mandriva 2008 for my 4 year old and he navigates pretty well on it. ( He wants to name our next child Super Tux)

My 13 year old is running Kubuntu 8.10 and she loves it. While both of their systems are dual boot with XP Professional, they both prefer *nix for the speed, and I prefer them using Linux for I hate removing Viruses due to poor web habits.

I feel KDE 3.5 (KDE 4 is a MESS imho)is a better environment for new comers due to the similar UI of Windows (1 task bar, 1 menu Button, etc.)

For the users that do not understand why the flash install was complicated for her, which repos did you have enabled when you did this.

Remember when introducing new users to Linux or any other OS for that matter there will be a curve. It is your responsibility to be that persons support or at least provide them with the millions of Web resources that will help. Don't think for a minute that you will install anything on anyone's PC and be done with them. You have now acquired the responsibility to assist that user with your knowledge. Once they are comfortable with the OS you will be their hero for freeing them from Billy's Little Bugware. You are now their Super Tux.

I would just like to say a big thank you to all who have posted comments, its been hysterical reading the generic hate people have for each other on the internet. (and the guy who posted the original list) Cheers all, you made me laugh!... btw about the comment someone made about cutting ones fingers off, I struggled to laugh at that one because I have actually lost my four fingers on my left hand in a saw mill accident... so all who can play the guitar, keep doing so for me...

Peace.

Gee..Grab some of that open source code and start to change it! "Open Source" you can change it, re-submit it and feel good about contributing. I read most of the comments, good points mostly, but what a whiner fest. I wished for a million dollars, I'm still waiting. Remember it's free. So if you have to work at it a bit - remember it's free. Seems like it's not a problem with Ubuntu it's an entitlement mentality problem on your part. I'm greatful that there is people willing to do the hard lifting so that I can use a free and open and modern OS. I guess i am just a "freetard".

Excellent post, there should be some mention of deja vu and other phenomenons
There is no word of caution, which there should be, but overall it is a nonbiased post

The way I like to see it, an acid trip is like a rebirth of consciousness
Its like seeing, smelling, hearing, feeling the world for the first time again to its full potential
It is an ego dissolution and your subjective processing of sensory input is washed away
I really enjoyed my trip and had really mindblowing ideas but it wasn't until weeks after that I realized how open minded I became
